Newark Community High School District 18 Board of Education met Oct. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The regular monthly meeting of the Newark Community High School District #18 Board of Education was called to order by President Chapman at 6:30 p.m. in the Learning Resource Center with Superintendent Smith present and Principal Still Present.

Roll call was taken showing the following board members present: Chapman, Fletcher, Jacobs, Kunkel, and Thompson.

Absent: Friestad, and Smith

Board Member Friestad arrived at 6:35

Visitors: Jessica Bloomquist and Lisa Woods

Mrs. Bloomquist shared with the Board what a great job the kids are doing on the Newsletter. She also shared that the Yearbook is coming along, and her AP Class has changed a little bit.

Lisa Woods shared that her two new courses have been an adventure. College & Career Exploration has visited NIU and AU, and had mock interviews, the kids are loving it and want to keep it going. ICE is going well. Kids are doing an amazing job.

Communications: None

A motion was made by Fletcher and seconded by Jacobs to approve the consent agenda: the regular minutes of the September 19, 2019; approval of agenda; financial reports as of September 30, 2019 and the bills and requisitions as presented. Approval of Budget Public Hearing Minutes of September 19, 2019. Approval of E-Learning Public Hearing Minutes of September 19, 2019.

Voting Aye: Fletcher, Friestad, Jacobs, Kunkel, Thompson Chapman Voting Nay: None Absent: Smith Motion carried.

The board went over the financial reports as of October 17, 2019:

September 2019, Treasurer's Report

• Education Fund: $185,011.69

• Operations and Maintenance Funds: $21,514.39

• Transportation Fund: $12,033.86

• IMRF/SOC Fund: $5,427.51

• Tort: $5,004.46

• September 2019 payrolls in the amount of: $60,828.28

And Financial Reports, October 2019 List of Bills amounting to:

• Education Fund: $30,022.20

• Operations and Maintenance Fund: $9,528.31

• Transportation Fund: $5,835.21

• October 2019 payrolls in the amount of: $126,909.69

And Extra Board bills for October:

• Education Fund: $9,050.56

• Operations and Maintenance Fund: $601.14

• Transportation Fund: $13.10

Board Business

It is Superintendent Smith's recommendation to award the building bid for summer of 2020.

A motion was made by Fletcher and seconded by Smith to award the following projects to Lite Construction for summer 2020: Base Bid, Alternate #1 (Science) Alternate #2 (Art Room) & Alternate #3 (Bathroom) as presented ($1,177,100).

Voting Aye: Jacobs, Kunkel, Smith, Thompson, Fletcher, Chapman Voting Nye: Friestad Motion carried.

A motion was made by Fletcher and seconded by Smith to reject the Building Bid for Alternate #4 (Hallway), Alternate #5 (Carpet), and Alternate #6 (Wood floors).

Voting Aye: Kunkel, Smith, Thompson, Fletcher, Friestad, Jacobs, Chapman Voting Nye: None Motion carried

A motion was made by Fletcher and seconded by Friestad to accept the bid of $3,166 to refinish wood floors.

Voting Aye: Smith, Thompson, Fletcher, Friestad, Jacobs, Kunkel, Chapman Voting Nay: None Motion carried

A motion was made by Friestad and seconded by Kunkel to accept the bid for Science Hall, the Gym Hall, the Ag. Hallway and the cross corridor as presented ($49,945)

Voting Aye: Thompson, Fletcher, Friestad, Jacobs, Kunkel, Smith, Chapman Voting Nay: None Motion carried

Superintendent Smith is recommending you approve all Board Policies Section 2

A motion was made by Thompson and seconded by Fletcher to approve the Board Policies Section 2-7.

Voting Aye: 7 Ayes Voting Nay: None Motion carried.

Superintendent Smith attached several policies for the Boards review.

Superintendent Smith provided the Board with preliminary information for the superintendent search. There are several options available.

2019 Preliminary Tax Levy. Superintendent Smith is hoping for a slight increase in the EAV this year.

Superintendent Smith attached Committee Meeting Updates from last month to the Board Packet.

Principals Report:

• Sr. Seminar presentations took place last week 10/8-9.

• Fall sports wrapping up. Soccer is in IHSA, Regional play and

Volleyball begins their quest to defend the 1A State title. Parent Teacher Conferences are next week (10/23 & 10/24)

A motion was made by Kunkel and seconded by Smith to go into closed session at 8:18 p.m. to review the closed session minutes on September 19, 2019 (5ILCS 120/2/(c) 21); School personnel matters (as per the Illinois Open Meeting Act) to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of Newark Community High School (5İLCS 120/2 (c)(1)).

Voice Vote: 7 Ayes Voting Nay: 0 Nays Motion carried.

The regular board meeting reconvened at 8:40 p.m.

Roll call was taken showing the following board members in attendance: Friestad, Jacobs, Kunkel, Smith, Thompson, Fletcher, Chapman.

A motion was made by Jacobs and seconded by Smith to approve the closed session board minutes for September 19, 2019.

Voice Vote: 7 Ayes Voting Nay: 0 Nays Motion carried.
