The Illinois House of Representatives has approved a joint resolution designating a section of Route 31 in Aurora as Dan Dolan Way in honor of the late Korean War veteran, firefighter and property developer.

The House-Senate resolution was introduced by Democratic Rep. Stephanie A. Kifowit, the Illinois General Assembly reported.

State Rep. Keith Wheeler was a co-sponsor.

"The Dolan family in Aurora is just one of those people you can't wait to see," Wheeler said on the House floor. "And you see them at virtually every charity function, every community function. They are synonymous with what makes Aurora a great place to live, a great place for me to represent. I want to echo some of Rep. Kifowit's comments about the time you spend with the Dolans is time you cherish. Saying Dan Dolan was a great Irishman is an understatement. The fact that when a particular holiday comes along, even celebrating his Irish heritage at Christmas if I remember right. His family is a wonderful group of people. He will be missed greatly."

The resolution unanimously advanced through the House and Senate, the assembly reported.

Dolan's storied career history once saw him working as a postal worker who had a side gig selling cookware before finding success in the real estate industry, the assembly reported.

"Daniel Dolan had an impact on generations of Aurorans through his philanthropy, generosity, and selfless service," the assembly reported. "He was proud of his involvement with Aurora Boys Little League Baseball for over 50 years and Fast Pitch Softball."

Other House sponsors include Reps. Barbara Hernandez and Maura Hirschauer, the assembly reported. Sen. Karina Villa was the Senate sponsor
