State Representative Jed Davis has introduced a bill aimed at alleviating the financial burden on teachers who purchase classroom supplies out of their own pockets. The proposed legislation, known as House Bill 3008, seeks to establish the Illinois Classroom Supply Assistance Program. This program would provide teachers with a Classroom Supply Assistance Card (CSAC) pre-loaded with funds for purchasing approved supplies.

Rep. Davis emphasized the importance of this initiative by stating, “House Bill 3008 helps address the added cost for teachers who pay for school supplies out of pocket.” He further explained, “Teachers shouldn’t have to pay for classroom supplies out of their own pockets. No other profession expects employees to cover work expenses from their own salary. This bill helps teachers keep more of their hard-earned money and ensures students have the supplies they need to succeed.”

The idea for this bill was suggested by Thomas McCullough, whom Rep. Davis thanked publicly: “Thank you to Thomas McCullough for suggesting this bill idea.”

House Bill 3008 is part of a larger legislative effort by Rep. Davis, included in his Protecting Kids Bill Package which comprises 12 bills in total.
