State Representative Jed Davis from Yorkville has unveiled his budget proposal for the fiscal year 2026. The document, titled “Spend Less, Live Better,” outlines a plan to achieve a balanced budget without increasing revenue.

Davis emphasized the need for fiscal responsibility in Springfield, stating, “It’s no secret – spending in Springfield is absolutely out of control.” He further added, “We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a self-control problem. But we can’t just keep complaining about it; we need to offer a realistic solution.”

The proposal includes several key points aimed at reducing state spending while maintaining essential services. It suggests capping spending at $44 billion, which represents a 20% reduction from the Governor’s proposed budget. Additionally, it plans to return $1,500 to households earning less than $100,000 annually.

Davis remarked on the financial pressures faced by Illinois residents: “Illinoisans cannot afford to continue footing the bill for a bloated budget year after year when they are already making sacrifices to make ends meet.” He described his proposal as “a conversation starter – a way to show Illinoisans that good governance is possible.”

In conclusion, Davis stated that the proposal offers “a smarter budget for a better Illinois” and aims to put “more money in your pocket, where it belongs.”
