Illinois State Representative Jed Davis has provided an update on the start of the Spring Legislative Session, noting that few session days have been scheduled in the early months of the year. Davis expressed concern over what he described as a lack of substantive legislative progress, stating that only nine session days have occurred since the new year and little meaningful work has been accomplished.
Davis criticized recent legislative activity, saying, “We spent our first week of session passing meaningless, non-binding resolutions, condemning the federal government. The people of Illinois are tired of the non-stop political grandstanding. They want us to get work done – not waste time and tax dollars for political soundbites.”
He outlined his focus on three priorities: property tax relief, increasing access to affordable housing, and expanding career opportunities. According to Davis, he has filed twelve bills addressing these issues and plans to provide more details in future updates.
The next legislative session is scheduled for March 18-20.
In response to Governor J.B. Pritzker’s recent State of the State and Budget Address, Davis released a statement highlighting areas of both agreement and disagreement with the governor’s fiscal year 2027 budget proposal. Davis said:
“Yesterday, Governor J.B. Pritzker gave his annual State of the State and Budget Address. While there were a number of issues with his FY27 budget proposal, including $1 billion in increased spending and $728 million in new taxes and fees, there were a few issues where the Governor and I agree.
“Illinoisans don’t just want complaining – they want real solutions to the largest problems facing our communities. I hear the same issues brought to my office time and time again. Residents want lower property taxes, more career opportunities, and more affordable housing. These are bipartisan issues, and I’m glad the Governor highlighted them. But we can’t just talk, we need to take action.
“It’s why I filed bills to tackle these important issues:
Property Tax Relief: House Bills 4290, 4299, 4317, and 4320.
Career Opportunities and Educational Affordability: House Bills 1112, 4295, 4296, and 4386.
Affordable Housing: House Bills 4387, 4389, 4852, and 5457.
“All of these bills provide real solutions to the issues facing our state. After today’s address, I’m hopeful the majority party will come to the table this session and help move these bills, as well as others filed by the House Republicans, forward in the legislative process.
“Let’s get to work for the people of Illinois.”
Davis also reminded constituents about a free museum pass available through his office for visiting participating museums in Chicagoland.
Jed Davis was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 75th House District in 2023 after replacing David Welter.
