Illinois state Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) is counting on constituents to take part in his Veteran’s Day tribute to armed forces veterans.

Oberweis has asked his 25th District area residents to share a photo and tribute to a loved one who served in the United States Armed Forces to be part of the “Wall of Honor” exhibit to be displayed at the Illinois State Capitol over the first two weeks of November.

“We can never find the words adequate to thank our Armed Services for leaving their families and homes to defend our nation,” Oberweis said in a press release. “Freedom is not free, and our nation is indebted to these brave men and women. We can honor them, however, and let the world know that we are thankful for their sacrifices to protect us.”

Families are asked to submit photos and 250-word stories as part of their submissions. All submissions are required to include the name, military branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy) and conflict served in (Afghanistan, Iraq, September 11, Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Peacetime, other) for the family member.

Military photos are preferred, but not necessary, and submission packages were to be emailed to veteransday@sgop.ilga.gov by November 3.

Those wanting or planning to travel to Springfield to see the tribute to their loved one on display are asked to view this video beforehand.

Oberweis, who recently launched his campaign for U.S. Congress in the 14th Congressional District, has served in Springfield since 2013. His 25th District includes portions of St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, Elburn, Sugar Grove, Aurora, North Aurora and other communities.
