Village of Oswego Historic Preservation Commission met Feb. 25.

CALL TO ORDER
Chairman George called the meeting of the Oswego Historic Preservation Commission to order at 7:02 p.m.

E. OLD BUSINESS
E.1. Harvey One-Room Schoolhouse Sign
Commissioner Murray reported that the Harvey family suggested adding the text, “built on land donated by the Harvey Family” in the fourth sentence. Including this language would provide context as to why the schoolhouse was called “Harvey School.” Commissioners George, Barrow, and Schwarz expressed their agreement and approval of the addition. …
F. NEW BUSINESS
F.1. Historic Property Highlights – Sears Homes Newsletter Draft
The Commission reviewed Oswegoland Park District Representative Mr. Noce’s “Sears and Other Kit Homes of Oswego” draft Historic Property Highlight write-up. Commissioners commented on and agreed that the draft was fascinating and well-written but also that it appeared too lengthy to fit in the Village newsletter. Mr. Lind stated that he would remove a few parts of the draft and present a revised version at the following Historic Preservation Commission meeting.
F.2 Honorary Street Dedication Preparation
Mr. Lind explained that Village staff members had begun discussing the upcoming Honorary Street Dedication ceremony for Mr. James Detzler. After Mr. Lind presented a few possible dates in the month of May, Commissioners decided that Thursday May 21, 2026 was their preferred date. Mr. Lind said that he would confer with the Detzler family, Village President Kauffman, and Village staff to see if May 21 will work for all those involved.
G. CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT
Chairman George reminded the Commission that applications for the 2026 Kendall County Historic Preservation Awards are due on March 2. Chairman George also gave an overview of the Village’s efforts surrounding “Oswego250,” the Village committee working to plan events and experiences celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary. J. DEVELOPMENT SERVICES REPORT
Mr. Lind stated the Village recently approved and adopted a new Strategic Plan. He also provided brief updates on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan and Comprehensive Plan.
Mr. Lind explained that he attended the Kendall County Historic Preservation Commission meeting on Wednesday February 18, 2026. Agenda items included presentations on “America 250” events in Kendall County and the Historic Structure Survey of Na-Au-Say and Seward Townships.
K. ANNOUNCEMENTS
K.1 Kendall County Historic Preservation Awards Press Release
The Commission noted that Chairman George mentioned the Kendall County Historic Preservation Awards Press Release in the Chairperson’s Report.
Mr. Lind informed the Commission that Mr. Kevin Zentner has moved and is no longer able to be a member of the Historic Preservation Commission. Mr. Lind and the Commissioners thanked Mr. Zentner for his dedication to the Village of Oswego and wished him the best in his future endeavors.
The Commission also discussed the need to add more members. Mr. Lind stated that the Village recently sent out marketing materials in hopes to recruit additional members to the Village’s various Commissions.
L. NEXT MEETING – Wednesday March 25, 2026
Commissioner Barrow stated that she will not be able to attend the March 25, 2026 Historic Preservation Commission meeting. Chairman George suggested rescheduling the March meeting, so Commissioner Barrow could attend and a quorum could be met. Mr. Lind stated he would explore alternate dates and contact the Commissioners via email with more information.
