David Welter claimed victory at the polls in a recent June election and makes his way to the upcoming November election.

“To every volunteer who knocked on doors, made phone calls, attended a fundraiser or displayed a yard sign for me at your home, I say thank you,” Welter said on Facebook. “It has been a tremendous privilege serving the people of the 75th District for the past six years.”

Ballotpedia wrote Welter took to office in 2015.

Welter won 45.5% of the GOP vote in the June 28 primary election, losing the 75th District race to challenger Jed Davis, Dispatch reported. In Kendall County, Welter won 42.7% of the vote.

The McDonough Voice reported Welter and other Illinois Republicans co-sponsored House Resolution 824 that requested the state’s auditor to review the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services back in April.

“Kids are in danger across the state,” Welter said to The McDonough Voice. “Governor J.B. Pritzker and his party have failed, and they need to correct the situation. We should not be seeing additional contempt orders. We should move everything we can to help save these kids and protect the youth that’s in our care.”

Davis said of Welter, “I’m very grateful for him and what he’s done for the 75th over the years here.” No Democrats ran for the 75th district seat.

Ballotpedia wrote Welter’s term ends in 2023.

Democrats currently control the Illinois House, Senate, and Governor’s office, Ballotpedia wrote. Democrats have controlled the House and Senate every year since 2003.

Ballotpedia also wrote that he’s the Republican Spokesperson for the Energy & Environment Committee in the Illinois House of Representatives.

“Last night was a great night — thank you to everyone supporting this campaign,” Davis said in a Facebook post. “This campaign is your campaign and the office of representative is your office, the people’s office. I’m honored and humbled by your votes of confidence. Thank you David Allen Welter State Representative 75th for your service to the 75th, greatly appreciate the open line of communication!”
