Chicago (89,958 cases) and Cook County (75,240 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 3,017, while Cook County recorded 2,347 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 6,824,237, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 69,385 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 163,495 were male and 178,086 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,965, while female deaths stood at 4,271.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 4,545 Asians, 4,545 whites, 2,283 African-Americans, 1,807 Hispanics, and 209 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
