Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) said she wholeheartedly agreed with Gov. Bruce Rauner's decision to call lawmakers back to Springfield for a 10-day session to work out a budget deal, according to a press release.
“I support Gov. Rauner calling lawmakers back to Springfield for a Special Session,” Rezin said in her statement. “Time is of the essence. My hope is during these 10 days, Democrats will return to the negotiating table and work with Republicans to achieve real compromise so we can pass a truly bi-partisan, balanced budget that moves Illinois forward.”
Because the General Assembly reached the end of the spring legislative session without a budget in place, any compromise will now require a three-fifths' majority for approval. Before the end of the regular session, Senate Democrats had proposed a budget that included a temporary income tax hike and spending cuts. Republicans have now released their own plan that calls for a four-year property tax freeze to coincide with the income tax hike and term limits on state lawmakers and officials.

“The deal must be good for education, social services, and taxpayers,” Rezin said in her statement. “I look forward to returning to Springfield and getting something real and balanced to the finish line.”
