Oberweis issues challenge to work to end hunger
State Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove), a longtime supporter of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, delivered the keynote address at the recent End Hunger Lobby Day in Springfield.
The annual event at the Capitol was promoted as an opportunity for the community to work together to provide nutritious options to families.
Oberweis challenged political leaders and legislators to take action on the initiative to offer healthy meals to the state's hungry.
State Sen. Chris Nybo (R-Elmhurst), co-chair of the Hunger Caucus, also spoke at the event.
Speakers focused on protecting Illinois residents’ SNAP benefits, helping senior citizens with food services and providing college students and children with healthier meal options.
