Riverfest

Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on July 24.

River Fest, held July 13-14 and co-hosted by the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce and United City of Yorkville Parks & Rec Department, saw a great turnout with an estimated attendance of 6,000 people. The festival ran smoothly due to a hard-working team of volunteers assisting Parks & Rec and Chamber staff.

For help with promotion, set-up, games, and clean-up, we are grateful to: Danielle Adams (American Family Insurance), Vada Aguilar, Melitsa Kalaizakis, Marisa Medgyesi, Falastine Reese, Danielle Swanson (Earthmover Credit Union), Nancy Benninger, Scott LeClere (Wheatland Title Company), Karylin Clevinger (VAC), Don Duffy (Team Eagle Packaging), Darren Fox, Steven Jack (Idea Marketing Group), Sandra Hurtado (Harmony Aesthetics), Gina Johansen (Keller Williams Realty Infinity), Denise Krafft (First National Bank), Kyla McClure (FNBC Bank & Trust), Greg & Rosie Millen (Heritage Home Décor & Design), Carrie Niesman, Jocelyn Retz (Old Second National Bank), Stephanie Roskopf (Yorkville Auto Body).

Community involvement was emphasized, with many local organizations participating.

Mike Shepard (Hampton Inn Yorkville), coordinated performance demos by BH Martial Arts, Fox River Academy of Music, Taekwondo Korea Center, YHS Foximus Prime Robotics, Yorkville STEP, and YPAC Your Performing Arts Center.

Ashley Preciado (Fox River Academy of Music & Art) organized a community art project (painted instruments to be displayed in Yorkville) and supplied the giant Lite Brite manned by YACC Green Connect who also set up kids’ games.

Also featured were Septran’s “Touch-a-Bus,” Go For It Sports obstacle course, and Samantha Brown SB Face Painting.

A crowd favorite, the cardboard boat races returned, organized by Stephanie Roskopf (Yorkville Auto Body) with support from Andy Cocallas (Chicago Whitewater Association).

Also back was the uniquely fun Apple Shots giant slingshot, provided by Darren Fox (Idea Marketing Group).

Additional thanks to: Kate McNamara (Ginger+Soul), Yorkville Parks & Rec staff, Fontanez PHOTOGRAPHY, and to Morris Hospital Yorkville Campus, Kendall Area Transit, and Yorkville School District for providing free shuttle service and parking.

Along with the beer tent that additionally offered homebrew and distillery tastings, an assortment of foods including ribs, tacos, burgers, and pizza were offered at food vendor booths from Knights of Columbus, Pepe’s, Rosati’s Pizza & Pub, and Trinity Church United Methodist.
