PLANO AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: North Texas Business Rally for School Finance Reform Presented By the Plano Chamber of Commerce

Conference

Plano Area Chamber Of Commerce issued the following announcement on Dec. 13.

The Plano Chamber of Commerce will host local business and community leaders at the North Texas Business Rally for School Finance Reform, which will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18 at the Plano ISD Administration Building (Board Room, 2700 West 15th Street).

The North Texas business community seeks to improve the Texas public school finance system to more equitably and adequately fund education and provide much-needed resources for teachers and schools in order to prepare its future workforce. School finance reform must be addressed during the 86th Legislature and this rally will help bring together public education stakeholders in support of working together to create meaningful reform.

"The people of Texas have spoken loudly, and they expect and deserve meaningful investments in our state’s public education system,” states Representative Jeff Leach, who will provide remarks at the event.

Leach continues, “I appreciate and value the partnerships that we’ve established with our local education and business community, and I look forward to working closely and collaboratively to deliver meaningful reforms on behalf of all Texas school children, their families and our revered educators.”

The event will feature remarks from a slate of local and state elected officials, as well as key business leaders, including Representative Jeff Leach, Texas House District 67; Missy Bender, President - Plano ISD Board of Trustees; Jeff Beckley, Board Chair - Plano Chamber of Commerce; Todd Williams, Chair – Outcomes Subcommittee, Texas Commission on Public School Finance; and Chris Wallace, President & CEO – North Texas Commission.

Bender will provide insight into the challenges school districts across the state are facing when it comes to the current funding scenario.

Williams has been key in developing initiatives that will produce the outcomes needed to ensure students can achieve success in school, college, and beyond. His work on the Texas Commission on Public School Finance has added a new element to the funding conversation.

“Our region's prosperity depends on fulfilling the promise we make to our children: that all Texas children deserve the opportunity to be the best version of themselves,” states Jeff Beckley, Plano Chamber’s 2018 Board Chair.
