Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 4.
Plano Community Garden is gearing up for summer planting. The garden is currently raising money for plants and repairs on equipment on Facebook. Our goal is $1000. We encourage our fellow chamber members and anyone else to help us in any way that they can, either money or a fund raiser. The garden currently has one tiller needing repairs or replacement and no money in their budget for this.
Remember the garden donates an average of three ton of fresh produce each year to the Kendall County Community Food Pantry. The garden is excited and looking forward to the 2019 growing season.
The garden will be helping the Kendall County Master Gardeners with a “seed swap” on Saturday, February 2 at the extension office on south Rt. 47 from 10-12. The public is invited. If you have seeds that you wish to share, you may bring them but it is not a requirement in order to attend. This event is a great way to get free packages of seeds and there will be many Master Gardeners present to help answer your questions. The garden will be providing the seeds and other miscellaneous items to start your own plants. This event is free, however, a small donation to the garden would be appreciated.
The garden also will be having a seed give away on Tuesday, March 5 at the Plano Library from 7-8pm. Public is invited to attend this free event. We also will have materials for starting your plants. We again will be asking everyone to consider giving a small donation.
