Oswegoland Park District issued the following announcement on April 21.
Whether it’s timing athletes or picking up litter in a neighborhood park, our volunteers keep our parks and programs looking great and running smoothly year-round. Keep reading to find out how you can get involved!
NATURAL RESOURCES
The Oswegoland Park District is the steward to over 600 acres of natural land. Volunteer with this team to help protect and build upon the work of restoring prairies, wetlands, and woodlands throughout our district. All ages are welcome, however, if you’re under 14 you’ll have to have a parent or guardian join you. Read more about this exciting opportunity here and contact Dave Margolis with any questions or to join the team!
PANTRY GARDEN
The gardens are a healthy, holistic outlet for people who want to volunteer for a project that benefits those in need. If you like to garden or enjoy working outdoors, this is the place for you! Read more about our pantry garden here or contact Dave Margolis with any questions or to join!
ATHLETIC EVENTS
Love the thrill of a race, but prefer to stay on the spectator side? This team might be the best fit for you! Cheer on competitors, keep them hydrated, and corral them at the finish to ensure their race experience is top notch. Racers are grateful for the support and with 5 races from April to November, you can volunteer when it works best with your schedule! Contact Kristie Vest for more information.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Throughout the year, our team plans a variety of events for both kids and adults. Have you heard of the Monster Mash Bash, Brew at the Bridge, or the Oswego Country Market? These are just some of the community events that we host with the help from volunteers just like you! If you would like to help out with this type of event, contact Kristie Vest for more information.
YOUTH SPORTS
If you have the desire to help children in the community and an enthusiasm to teach, you can be a volunteer sports coach! Whether you’re a seasoned coach or new to the game, we welcome all volunteers. We provide training and support throughout the season to make sure you’re having fun in addition to the kids. Contact Brian Everhart to sign up or ask any questions you may have!
PRAIRIEFEST
“The Festival You Know By Heart.” This year marks 31 years of PrairieFest and more specifically, 31 years of fun. Four days of music, rides, food, and lemon shake ups are in store for June and we need your help! With all that’s on the agenda, it takes an army of volunteers to make it happen. Volunteer crews include parking, grounds, beer tent, and more. If you’re 12 years of age or older, head on over to our website to sign up for a crew today. Oh, and in case you’re a first timer, all volunteers receive an exclusive 2019 Festival Volunteer t-shirt!
If you’re interested in learning more, don’t hesitate to contact our team for more information or to ask any questions you may have. We’re grateful for the support of the community and look forward to many great things to come in 2019!
