The Board of Education of Plano Community Unit School District No. 88 met in special session on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Plano School District Administration Office.

I CALL TO ORDER

President Campbell called the special meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. Present for roll call were Campbell, Jernigan, W aldrop and W ard. Members Klatt, Martinez and V elazquez were absent. Also present were Plano High School Principal Jim Seput and Superintendent Baker. Superintendent Baker was appointed secretary pro-tem.

II EXECUTIVE SESSION FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVIEWING STUDENT DISCIPLINE CASE (#19-01) (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9))

Jernigan moved, and Waldrop seconded the motion, to go into executive session at 7:16 p.m. for the purpose of discussing student disciplinary matters (Discipline Case #19-01), pursuant to Illinois Code 2(c)(9) of the Open Meetings Act.

Voting aye: Jernigan, Waldrop, Campbell and Ward. Motion carried: 4 ayes, 0 nays, 3 absent.

Jernigan moved, and Waldrop seconded the motion, to come out of executive session at 7:30 p.m.

Voting aye: Jernigan, Waldrop, Campbell and Ward.

Motion carried: 4 ayes, 0 nays, 3 absent.

III ACTION FROM EXECUTIVE SESSION

Waldrop moved, and Jernigan seconded the motion, that all documents, the tape recording and all evidence and testimony submitted as a part of the student disciplinary proceeding be made a part of the closed session minutes of the Board of Education, and be deemed a part of the student’s temporary file.

It was further moved that, based upon and after the Board’s consideration of the evidence and testimony of the expulsion hearing held on May 28, 2019, the Board of Education enter a finding that the student in Discipline Case #19-01 was guilty of gross misconduct as charged by the district’s administration of Plano High School.

It was further moved that the student in Discipline Case #19-01 should be expelled from Plano School District No. 88 for the first and second semester of the 2019-20 school year and the first and second semester of the 2020-21 school year.

Voting aye: Waldrop, Jernigan, Campbell and Ward. Motion carried: 4 ayes, 0 nays, 3 absent.

IV ADJOURNMENT

Waldrop moved, and Ward seconded the motion, to adjourn the meeting at 7:43 p.m. Voting aye: Waldrop, Ward, Campbell and Jernigan.

Motion carried: 4 ayes, 0 nays, 3 absent.
