Illinois State House District 97 issued the following announcement.
PLAINFIELD—Governor Pritzker recently signed legislation into law to expand the availability of mammogram screenings. State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) was a co-sponsor of the legislation, SB162, which will require insurance companies to cover comprehensive ultrasound screenings if a mammogram demonstrates heterogeneous or dense breast tissue or when medically necessary as determined by a licensed physician.
The Susan G. Komen Foundation suggested the need for this legislation, as they were concerned that the increasing cost of deductibles is causing women to forego important follow up mammograms. Frequently a follow up mammogram is required to monitor a condition or potential condition.
“This legislation gives women across Illinois access to necessary medical testing that can make all the difference in detecting and treating breast cancer,” said Batinick. “Removing obstacles like the high costs of deductibles will make an important impact in women’s health to ensure all women in our state can receive the testing they need to continue living healthy lives.”
