Illinois state Rep. David Allen Welter (R-Morris) made it a point to take time to celebrate World Kindness Day on Nov. 13.
“There is so much daily negativity on the news, on social media and in our political discourse, all of which obscures the many acts of kindness that take place every day in our own community,” Welter posted on Facebook. “Everyone who donates to or volunteers at a local food pantry, volunteers through your church, helps a stranded stranger in a parking lot by offering to jump their car battery, or simply offers a smile or a friendly greeting to a neighbor, co-worker or stranger while you’re out running errands – these are acts of kindness that seem so trivial that we don’t celebrate them, but they mean a lot to the people whose lives you touch with your kindness.”
Welter called on constituents and residents across the state to make sure the day held some meaning.
“Let’s not let today become another one of those meaningless social media holidays,” he said in his post. “Let’s take kindness into our hearts and share it with those around us every day. I guarantee you’ll find that what you get back in return is so much more than what you think you’re giving.
