Aux Sable Middle School issued the following announcement on March 10.

District 202 will host two free community programs about the 2020 Census on March 10, 2020 at Drauden Point Middle School, and March 18, 2020 at Heritage Grove Middle School in Plainfield.

Drauden Point Middle School is located at 1911 Drauden Road, Plainfield. Heritage Grove Middle School is at 12425 S. Van Dyke Road, Plainfield.

Both programs will run from 6:30-8 p.m. A representative of the United States Census Bureau will share information, answer questions and explain the importance of completing the 2020 Census. Refreshments will be available.

The United States Constitution requires that everyone be counted every 10 years. Census information is then used to determine Legislative representation and Will County’s share of $675 billion in federal funds.

Will County is in line for $219 million based on the 2020 Census results. That money helps pay for roads, education, healthcare and public safety, among other important community investments.

Will County residents should receive the Census in the mail in mid-to late March. For the first time ever, community members will be able to complete the Census online and on smartphones, as well as the “old fashioned” way by filling out the paper form.

Respondents will be able to complete the Census immediately, however, April 1, 2020 is designated as “Census Day.” Forms completed early should reflect where the respondent(s) and related family are living on April 1, 2020.

By law, Census information is confidential. It cannot be shared with any other entity including employers, landlords, other governmental agencies or immigration services.
