Rep. Mark Batinick is one of the co-sponsors of a bill that would give a tax credit to families who take care of foster children.
The bill, H.B. 5119, was written to create a tax credit to level out expenses foster care parents face and it specifies the credit is not to exceed $1,000 in any taxable year, according to the Herald News.
Batinick indicated the bill is a great piece of legislation that will help families who take care of foster children. He also praised the foster families that he has gotten to know in his district.
“This is one piece of legislation that will make a difference for those families who are foster parents,” said Batinick in a press statement. “I greatly admire the foster care families I have gotten to know in my district and appreciate all that they do to make a difference in the lives of children in need. I hope that this bill will provide them with some added financial stability so they can continue making an impact in foster care,” Batinick added.
The bill was assigned to the Revenue and Finance Committee on March 12, according to the Illinois General Assembly website.
