Illinois State House District 97 issued the following announcement on April 3.
With the extended Stay at Home order and the effects the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is having on the community, State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) is sponsoring a mobile food pantry event in his 97th District.
Catholic Charities and Northern Illinois Food Bank are working together to provide the Mobile Pantry program, which travels to communities in need to deliver nutritious food, including fresh produce and refrigerated items. The Mobile Pantry will be at St. Mary Immaculate Parish in Plainfield, 15629 S. Rt. 59, on Wednesday, April 8th, from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm. This is a drive through style distribution, and boxes or bags will be provided. Food is distributed on a first come, first served basis, and while supplies last.
Over the last three weeks, Rep. Batinick has worked to bring resources to his community, especially those most at risk to the virus, through his Helping Hands Program. That initiative has brought essential grocery items to senior citizens in need so they can stay at home and stay healthy. Now, Batinick is aiming to help the larger community in need with necessary food supplies.
The Representative and members from his Helping Hands volunteer team will be assisting with next week’s event, ensuring that the appropriate safety precautions are taken to keep both residents and volunteers healthy.
“This public health crisis we are navigating is unlike anything we have experienced before and it’s affecting everyone,” said Batinick. “I know that there are many people in my district and throughout Illinois who cannot adequately provide food for their families right now. We are here to help alleviate that stress. Providing food to those who need it the most in our community is an essential service that I am extremely grateful to be able to help coordinate. With the stay at home order extended and the coronavirus still a huge risk for everyone, the proper health precautions will be provided to ensure food gets into the hands of those who need it most in the safest way possible.”
Northern Illinois Food Bank partners with 900 feeding programs across 13 counties to serve our neighbors needing food.
