HQC Inc. and Marshall Mold have joined forces to assist Turbo Charged, a local robotics team, design, manufacture and donate ear savers that are used on face masks to help relieve the stress on the wearer's ears.

According to Patch, the ear savers will be donated to first responders and medical staff amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Patch reports that surgical masks were never designed for use during prolonged periods and their design functionality isn't easy for first responders' ears. When worn for extended periods, they can hurt the wearer by putting stress on the backs of the ears. Ear savers make it possible to wear face masks for longer periods.

The Turbo Charged engineers have been 3D printing face shields with an adjustable design since early April. Turbo Charged wanted to help by designing the new ear savers. The companies are designing efficient surgical mask bands and will be available for donations soon.
