In Kendall County, officials are asking Gov. J.B. Pritzker to allow all businesses to reopen on equal footing.
Kendall County Board Chairman Scott Gryder sent a letter to the governor urging that nonessential and essential businesses be allowed to open with the same restrictions.
"'Non-essential' small businesses are not allowed to re-open until Phase 3 of the governor's 'Restore Illinois' plan, while,'large stores' that sell food or cleaning supplies along with several items that 'non-essential' small businesses sell are allowed to operate," Gryder said in the letter.
Small business owners have said they will follow all protocols and safety guidelines if they can reopen.
He also said these small businesses need to be protected because they received no funding from the CARES Act to help them manage while closed. Gryder asked Pritzker in his letter to send some federal aid to small businesses in Kendall County.
The protection of funds from "Rebuild Illinois" is also important, because these funds are essential to helping the county recover, Gryder said in his letter.
As of June 27, Illinois reported 141,077 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 6,873 deaths. Kendall County has had 950 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
