Illinois State House District 75 issued the following announcement on May 23
State Representative David Allen Welter, R-Morris, issued the following statement today after the General Assembly voted to approve a state budget for FY 2021:
“Mike Madigan’s FY21 budget spends roughly $42.8 billion even though the State only expects to bring in a little under $36.8 billion, $5 billion of which comes from additional borrowing. House Republican lawmakers like me were completely cut out of the final budget product this year. Speaker Madigan and his majority decided to go it alone and ram through a partisan, unbalanced budget. Even worse, we are ceding an enormous amount of control and authority over the budget to Governor Pritzker with very little oversight or limitations.
I am particularly upset that this budget fails yet again to provide any real property tax relief for local families, many of whom are struggling more than ever due to financial hardship from COVID-19. I voted No because we were not given the opportunity to vote on alternatives to this grossly unbalanced budget.”
