Newark Fire Protection District responded to 20 calls in 2018 - 56.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Newark included 12 fires - nine structure fires, one vehicle fire and two other fires.

In all, the department saw $53,600 in fire loss - or about $4,467 per fire.

The department also received eight false calls.

The Newark Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $365,680 in 2018.
