State Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) is proudly trumpeting his endorsement from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in his run against Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Illinois) in the 14th Congressional District.

“It is not often groups the size and the magnitude of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce endorse a challenger,” Oberweis told the Kendall County Times. “The reason the Chamber of Commerce going with me and my campaign is for two key reasons. First, I have a proven record of job creation and second, they chose me over Underwood because at a time when we need to focus on our economy, Underwood is focused on radical pie-in-the-sky ideas that will send our economy into a tailspin.”

In throwing its support behind Oberweis, the “world’s largest business federation” saluted him for his pro-business position and support for polices the agency deems as standing behind the protection of free enterprise.

“The U.S. Chamber of Commerce knows where I stand and they know that I am a champion of free enterprise and a champion of economically sound principles that will bring our economy back,” Oberweis added. “(Underwood) wants to raise taxes, increase government spending and add jobs killing regulations on businesses. She will cost the country jobs and hurt working families in the process. I am the economic leader we need and I am proud to have the support of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.”

Oberweis said it speaks volumes that the agency elected to endorse his candidacy over that of his rival.

“My opponent had a chance to lock up this endorsement,” he said. “As a sitting member of Congress, she has had the opportunity to cast votes and to weigh in on issues important to the business community. Instead of helping businesses and helping to grow our economy, she chose to embrace policies that will hurt businesses, hurt working families and will lead to job loss. My record of job creation and support of sound economic policies speaks for itself which is why the nation’s largest business federation is supporting me for Congress.”
