Kendall County Republican Party Chair James Marter rages Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker appears to be on a one-man crusade to destroy the state.
“What he’s doing with these new COVID restrictions is crushing the state economy,” Marter told the Kendall County Times. “These latest restrictions really don’t give many of our small businesses a chance of survival.”
Citing rising infection rates, Pritzker recently moved to reenact COVID restrictions in at least 24 counties while warning the ban could soon spread to other parts of the state. Almost instantly, the governor’s actions drew the ire of many small business owners still struggling to overcome the effects of the first shutdown he imposed just months earlier.
“The courts have already ruled he has zero authority to be doing any of this, yet he still wants to dictate,” Marter added. “The governor needs to understand people have been educated about this virus and they now know better how to take care of themselves.”
Given the increasingly high stakes, Marter said he isn’t surprised to now see so many small business owners fighting back, including launching a Facebook page where owners planning to defy his order can go to strategize and vent their frustrations.
“I hope we see a lot more of it,” he added. “We have to do whatever we need to in able to preserve our small business industry.”
Marter also recently took Pritzker to task over his ban on high school sports as way of mitigating the spread of the virus.
“Right now, we’ve reached the point where we’re robbing of children of opportunities in life that many of them may never see again,” he said. “I see groups of young people playing sports in the neighborhood, in organized leagues and at the parks. So, I don’t see why the governor thinks he has to continue taking the position he is.”
