City of Joliet Public Safety Committee met Oct. 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL

Jan Hallums Quillman, Don "Duck" Dickinson, and Larry E. Hug

Present

ALSO PRESENT: Interim City Manager Jim Hock, Deputy Chief Marc Reid, Deputy Chief Michael Batis, and CIO David Braner

CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS

None.

DISCUSSION ON 3 PHASE APPROACH REGARDING SOFTWARE, TASERS, AND BODYCAMS

Councilwoman Quillman spoke regarding Axon's presentation held at the October 19, 2020 Pre-Council Meeting.

Deputy Chief Batis and CIO David Braner briefly discussed the TASER program and software for the police department.

Interim City Manager Jim Hock briefly discussed creating a resolution outlining the 3 phase program to be considered by the full Council.

Councilwoman Quillman briefly discussed a conversation held with Congressman Foster regarding body cameras for the police department.

There was a brief discussion on body cameras and on the resolution outlining the 3 phase program for the police department.

NEW OR OLD BUSINESS, NOT FOR FINAL ACTION OR RECOMMENDATION

Ms. Melissa Boatman stated that she spoke about Narcan at the August Council meeting and since then her supervisor Connie Duvall and Dr. Burke have been in contact with the Narcan resource officers at the Joliet Police Department. She thanked the City Council and the Public Safety Committee for their response to the Narcan Program.

Deputy Chief Batis updated the Committee on the budget amendment authorized in the beginning of the year for police training.

PUBLIC COMMENTS

Jerry Hervey spoke regarding tasers and body cameras.

Johnathan Marquardt spoke regarding body cameras.

Suzanna Ibarra spoke regarding body cameras.

Cesar Guerrero spoke regarding tasers and body cameras.
