Even before the state of Illinois started to experience fewer COVID-19 outbreaks, and mitigations started to be rescinded, Kendall County Republican Party Chairman James Marter was perplexed why so many students were still being held out of school.
“All these kids have been out there together playing in large groups in mass without masks,” Marter told the Kendall County Times. “They may not be getting together in school, but they find ways to network and hang out. I don’t know why anyone is afraid of bringing them together in a controlled environment. It’s high time to get back in school. I think that parents of school-age children want their kids in school.”
Even as Chicago Public School officials announced a plan to get high school students back for in-person learning in some capacity by the middle of April, the declaration raised as many questions as it supplied answers, with the Chicago Teachers Union stressing that no agreement has been finalized.
Meanwhile in Kendall County, Marter said most residents are on the same page in terms of what they want from their schools.
“We’re supporting conservative candidates that want schools back open and oppose this draconian, critical race theory nonsense that Democrats pushed through in a non-legislative process,” he said. “I don’t know if you should call the board of education. It’s more like board of indoctrination at this point.”
