Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Sept. 21

A peak season at Farnsworth House, we are excited to announce a line of up fall programming that includes something for everyone! The newest exhibition, Theorem, by Antonia Contro and Elizabeth Bradfield, opens in Barnsworth Gallery, September 25th. Join us for a free reception from 2:00-4:00pm. Heather Prince returns October 3d at 9am to lead the very popular Fall Landscape Walk. Guests will enjoy a leisurely morning stroll amongst fall color while learning more about the landscape and natural beauty of the site. Architecture of Asana returns with a Yin practice, led by Sheila Kari on October 23rd from 8:30-10am.  Learn to love a new style of yoga in the serenity of Farnsworth House. Finally, for lovers of art and poetry, Poetry and Art in Conversation, will be led by naturalist and poet, Elizabeth Bradfield. This virtual writing workshop focuses on responding to, and discovering new relationships to, a piece of visual art and is inspired by Bradfield’s work on Theorem. All are welcome to attend. To purchase tickets to any of these events, please visit our website.

Through 2021, Farnsworth House, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation is celebrating namesake Dr. Edith Farnsworth’s life and times with a new interpretive exhibition, Edith Farnsworth Reconsidered in the Visitor Center and Edith Farnsworth’s Country House, the temporary refurnishing of the house circa 1955. In addition to our regular guided tours, Thursday visitors will enjoy a special Edith Farnsworth tour focusing on her life and legacy.  Please see our website for up to date information about forthcoming companion programming, new exhibitions and events.

Designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1945 and constructed in 1951, the Farnsworth House is a vital part of American iconography, an exemplary representation of both the International Style of architecture as well as the modern movement’s desire to juxtapose the sleek, streamline design of Modern structure with the organic environment of the surrounding nature. Mies constructed this glass box residence of “almost nothing” for Dr. Edith Farnsworth as a country retreat along the Fox River in Plano, IL. It continued to be a private residence for over 50 years until Landmarks Illinois and the National Trust for Historic Preservation purchased it in 2003.
