Embrace the Cold Weather Fun

2

Oswegoland Park District issued the following announcement on Jan. 4

Bundle up and embrace the weather as you enjoy some of these fantastic outdoor activities!

BUILD A SNOWMAN OR SNOW FORT

“Do you want to build a snowman?” Head out to one of our 64 parks and share your snowman or fort making skills with the community! Be sure to take a photo of your creation and share it with us on Facebook -@OswegolandParkDistrict or Instagram @OswegolandParks

HAVE A SNOWBALL FIGHT

With 1,290 acres of parkland, there is plenty of room for an epic snowball fight! Head to your nearest park and pack your arsenal of icy missiles. Retreat behind a tree if needed, and definitely warm up after with a steaming mug of hot cocoa.

GO SNOWSHOEING OR CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

If you have equipment for either of the aforementioned activities, you can head over to the following locations for Skiing or Snow Shoeing of varying difficulties:

Waa Kee Sha – Perhaps the mildest terrain, this park offers 22 acres of dense woodland. You will see nature at its finest as you traverse the trails. Park is open for foot traffic only.

Fox Bend Golf Course – Navigating a golf course can be challenging on the finest of summer days. Come see how winter brings a whole new perspective to bridges, hills, and bunkers!

Saw Wee Kee – A great place for intermediate or expert skiers, Saw Wee Kee Park offers a more technical landscape. Make sure to follow the trail signs as you dive into this 134.4-acre park.

TAKE A NATURE WALK

Bundle up and hit the trails for a winter nature walk. There is so much to explore along our 20 miles of trails, and we make it easy for you to enjoy by plowing our paved trails when we receive significant snowfall!

GO SLEDDING

Sledding is perhaps the most beloved winter activity of all. If you relish in the brisk winter air kissing your nose and cheeks as you descend a hill at lightning speed, we have seven parks with sledding hills for you! Bring your favorite saucer, tandem bobsled, or inflatable snow tube and come enjoy the great outdoors. Parks with snow hills include:

Prairie Point Community Park

Northampton Park

Chesterfield Park

Ogden Falls Park

Deerbrook Park

Community Park at Grande Park

BIRD WATCH

The Fox River, right here in our very own backyard, is a favorite hangout of bald eagles during the colder months! Grab your binoculars and explore the Fox River Trail along Route 25 for your chance to spot one of these magnificent birds.

GO ICE SKATING

Lace up your skates and head over to Prairie Point Community Park when the green flag is flying to take a spin or drop a puck on our seasonal ice rink. Our Parks & Planning Team works hard to maintain the rink all winter long, but we rely on Mother Nature to do her part by bringing the chilly temps!
