Rep. Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) recently pushed legislation through the House that will make amendments to the state's Procurement Code.
House Bill 2770 has passed both chambers unanimously. Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the bill into law May 6.
The law amends the Illinois Procurement Code and requires the Capital Development Board and the Department of Transportation to prepare quarterly reports on the status of change order requests.
"This is a step in the right direction on what is going to be a long journey. Vote aye," Batinick said from the House floor.
The bill also requires construction agencies that are procuring construction and construction-related professional services to make "reasonable efforts to contract with Illinois businesses" and to provide a bid preference to a responsible bidder that is an Illinois business.
House Bill 2770 goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2023, except for certain provisions that had taken effect immediately.
