Scott Gryder, GOP candidate for the 14th Congressional District, said U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-IL) is “in trouble,” according to the latest polling.
“Our race rating was changed last week from ‘leans Democrat’ to a ‘toss up,’” Gryder said in a campaign email. “Early voting is showing that the race is close, and now even the Cook Political Report is saying that Lauren Underwood is in trouble.”
He said the Democrats’ problems are piling on.
“Underwood’s solution is to throw millions of dollars at TV ads to attempt to drown out her record on crime and inflation,” Gryder said.
According to Roll Call, a so-called "red wave" is anticipated in Tuesday's election as the GOP is predicted to take control of the U.S. House of Representatives, with Illinois being a key battleground, Rock Island Today reported.
Gryder noted his priorities if elected.
“My top priorities include addressing the skyrocketing cost of living and the high toll rampant inflation is taking on household budgets, keeping our communities safe and cutting spending and lowering taxes!" Gryder said on Twitter, DuPage Policy Journal reported.
In recent weeks Gryder, chairman of the Kendall County Board, has harped on Underwood’s support for the New Green Deal.
“Lauren Underwood continually pushed the Green New Deal and costly tax hikes at the expense of hardworking Americans,” Gryder said, according to Kendall County Times. “I believe we deserve better. We need a Congressperson who is looking to cut taxes, not hike them; to lower energy bills, not raise them. I will stop the 'consumer last' mentality and bring the lower taxes, better government approach I have taken in Kendall County to Congress."
