State Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego) has conceded the race to represent the 83rd House District to Democratic opponent Matt Hanson.
"Congratulations to Matt Hanson on his win tonight. Since taking office in 2015, I’ve always taken a collaborative approach to getting the people’s work done and will continue to do so until I leave office in January. Our state faces many challenges, and the only way to address them is to work together for the betterment of Illinoisans," Wheeler said in a Facebook post.
With approximately 95% of the 83rd District's votes in, Hanson seems to have defeated the incumbent Wheeler. Hanson won 54% of the vote in Kane County and 51.6% of the vote in Kendall County.
Prior to the election, Hanson was asked why he was running to which he had replied, “The policies of my opponent aren’t really the way I view things ... there are some things that haven’t been represented the way I want them in Springfield."
Hanson defeated challenger Arad Boxenbaum in the June Democratic primary, winning 67.8% of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.
Hanson was a Kane County Board member from 2019 and 2021 and works as an engineer on the BNSF Railway, according to Ballot Ready.
Hanson said in a recent Facebook post that he is a supporter of abortion rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the Equal Pay Act.
