Joliet Junior College Athletic Department is excited to announce the addition of Edmond "Skip" Steffey as the Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach at JJC. Joliet Junior College enters a new era with the addition of men's and women's golf beginning competition in the fall of 2023.
"Bringing a golf program to JJC and our community was really important to our department and our administration to better serve our student athletes as we move forward. It is exciting to offer a growing sport to our community, and to be able to add Coach Steffey to lead this program is very rewarding. He brings over 17 years of experience in the collegiate coaching world and we look forward to watching him grow the golf program here at JJC. We are so excited to welcome Coach Steffey to our Wolves Athletic family," Director of Athletics, Gregg Braun, stated.
Coach Steffey was born and raised on the southside of Chicago where he graduated from Morgan Park Academy. He chose to take his golfing talents to Texas Christian University, where he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. After several years of competition, he decided the nomadic life of a golf professional was not for him, he preferred a traditional family lifestyle. Skip continued to play competitively while working in the private sector but focused on teaching beginning in 1990. He was approached in 2004 to coach the struggling Women's Golf Team at Lewis University and started his college coaching career at that time. Five years later, he took the Men's Team at Lewis under his wing and continued his 17-year career before retiring in November 2021. While at Lewis Coach Steffey had players win accolades in the Great Lakes Valley Conference from Freshman-of-the-Year to All-Region Honors, while still holding the team to a strong level of academic excellence. Under his guidance thirty-two women earned All-American Scholar awards from the Women's Golf Coaches Association and sixteen members of the Men's team won All-American Scholar awards from the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Coach Steffey is a resident of Mokena with his wife Karen. The Steffeys have two children, son Tres and daughter Kim. Kim and her husband Nick have given the Steffeys two amazing grandsons, AJ age 8 and Jackson age 4.
Coach Steffey officially begins his duties at JJC on January 9th.
