Illinois state Sen. Win Stoller (R-Germantown Hills) has criticized his Democrat colleagues and their push for "extreme abortion laws" after an expansion bill was passed last week.
Stoller blasted Illinois' new abortion law as being too extreme, and added he felt Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) and other Democrats are relishing in the moment while hoping to make sure the Prairie State is the most pro-abortion in the nation.
"Illinois Democrats are in a race to pass the most extreme abortion laws in the nation so the Governor and his allies garner national publicity for being the most pro-abortion lawmakers in the entire country," Stoller wrote in a Facebook January 10 Facebook post.
Stoller stated that under the amendment to House Bill 4664, insurance companies would be required to cover "puberty blockers" for patients of all ages. He added, "Illinois already had extreme pro-abortion laws, but this is beyond pale."
Pritzker signed the new bill into law. The law aims to protect reproductive, gender-affirming healthcare and medical providers from legal actions that originate from other states as some states have moved quickly to restrict these procedures following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, ABC 7 Chicago reported.
According to ABC 7, Democrat governors in Colorado, North Carolina, and Hawaii have used their executive powers to protect abortion providers and patients from being extradited to states that have banned the procedures. Abortion rights are now set in stone as part of Michigan, Vermont, and California's constitutions.
