The city of Yorkville is getting ready for its exciting library fundraiser.
“I urge all residents to support Yorkville Public Library by participating in Fundraiser Day," said Mayor John Purcell. "And I will say fantastic planning, this is always the week between Power championship and the Super Bowl. So you have no excuses. And it's right here in town so even if the weather's bad, you can get over there.”
The Yorkville Public Library is hosting its annual fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 5. For anyone who has ever wanted to play a round of mini golf inside a library, this is the event. With the help of the Friends of Yorkville Library, there will be 18 holes of mini golf throughout the library on Sunday, with each one uniquely decorated and challenging.
The library will only be open to participants that day, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 per golfer. Players can also enter a raffle for $1 per ticket or $5 for 6 tickets. The library will also have some characters from popular books and movies to hang out with the kids while adults hit the course.
The library’s annual fundraiser uses the proceeds to buy new books for the library each year. Since its first fundraiser in 2014, the event has raised over $40,000 that has helped fund its Teen Advisory Group, Computer Basics for Seniors course, monthly Escape Adventures, Chair Yoga, and Creative Writing instructors, all of which are free to the public.
The event has become a local tradition for many families, usually bringing out over 350 golfers. It is the easiest and most fun way to support the local library and its many initiatives for expanding library and social services for the community.
