YORKVILLE- State Representative Jed Davis (R-Yorkville) has introduced House Bill 4340, aimed at strengthening penalties for individuals accused of grooming or trafficking children. In a statement, Rep. Davis emphasized the importance of preventing sexual offenders from entering into plea deals to evade harsher punishments.
“House Bill 4340 will prevent individuals accused of grooming or trafficking children from entering into plea deals in an attempt to spend less time in prison,” said Rep. Davis. “Essentially, we are creating a roadblock for sexual offenders who want to plead to a lesser offense."
The primary objective of the bill is to ensure justice for the children and families affected by these heinous acts. By eliminating the possibility of plea deals, the bill seeks to keep dangerous predators off the streets for a longer period of time. Rep. Davis stressed that the ultimate goal is to protect our children, and this bill serves as a crucial step in achieving that objective.
“This is a really simple bill that will not only bring justice to the children and families affected by these horrendous acts, but will also keep dangerous predators off the streets for a longer period of time. It all comes down to protecting our children, and this bill is one easy way to do that.”
House Bill 4340 is part of a comprehensive package of bills introduced by Representative Davis, collectively known as Protecting Kids. The package aims to address various issues related to child safety and protection.
