The Illinois General Assembly recently concluded its 'Lame Duck' session, with Representative Jed Davis expressing disappointment over the passage of certain bills, including Karina’s Law. Davis criticized the law for infringing on constitutional rights and stated his refusal to support legislation that undermines fundamental freedoms.

As the 104th General Assembly begins, Davis voiced concerns about proposals such as legalized prostitution and slavery reparations, labeling them as part of a "radical agenda." In contrast, he highlighted his focus on introducing 30 bills aimed at benefiting families, taxpayers, and workers. These bills are categorized into four areas: helping households by lowering living costs and easing tax burdens; protecting kids by strengthening parental rights; promoting careers by expanding opportunities and reducing red tape; and preserving freedoms by defending constitutional rights.

Among the proposed bills is HB 1092, which aims to raise the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Exemption threshold from $65,000 to $85,000. Other initiatives include ensuring temporary family members do not count toward household income for tax exemption purposes (HB 1099), requiring free access to electronic medical records (HB 1100), and expanding access to cancer screenings (HB 1102).

Davis has been appointed to seven committees focusing on family protections, fiscal responsibility, and personal freedoms. He plans to use these roles to oppose what he considers radical policies while advocating for cost-of-living reductions.

In response to a bill proposing the legalization of prostitution in Illinois, Davis launched a petition opposing it. He argued that such legislation could lead to increased human trafficking and exploitation of vulnerable individuals.

Additionally, Davis announced the opening of his 2025 Legislative Survey for constituents' input on key policy issues. His office also offers free museum passes for Chicagoland museums through a request form available online.

Upcoming outreach events include a blood drive on February 13th at his district office in Yorkville and traveling office hours in Seneca on February 19th and Sheridan on February 26th.

Davis provided information about important legislative deadlines: House Bill Introduction Deadline is February 7th; Governor's State of the State & Budget Address is scheduled for February 19th; House Bill Committee Passage Deadline is March 21st. A new webpage will soon be available for tracking legislative progress.
