State Representative Jed Davis from Yorkville has introduced the Promoting Careers Bill Package, a series of six legislative proposals designed to address economic challenges in Illinois. The bills aim to expand opportunities, foster job growth, and support small businesses.
“Let’s be honest: Illinois’ economy is in trouble,” said Rep. Davis. He highlighted issues such as stagnant job growth, business closures, and the exodus of young people seeking better opportunities elsewhere. “It’s time for action," he stated. "The Promoting Careers Bill Package tackles these issues head-on by fostering job growth, increasing educational opportunities, and uplifting small businesses.”
The proposed legislation includes several measures:
- HB1093: This bill allows new businesses to fully deduct their first year of income to aid startups.
- HB1094: It aims to assist rental companies in combating theft and reducing losses.
- HB1098: This bill proposes lowering the firefighter eligibility age from 21 to 18.
- HB1101: It seeks to expand access to the Teach Illinois Scholarship Program for teacher recruitment and retention.
- HB1112: The bill opens pathways for skilled trade workers to become educators without requiring a bachelor’s degree.
- HB1718: It intends to ease restrictions on snowplow drivers in small townships.
“These are common-sense, bipartisan solutions,” added Rep. Davis. He emphasized the importance of making it easier for individuals to work, start businesses, and train future generations in order to retain jobs within the state. “These bills are a step in the right direction to turn things around for our state.”
