1. OATH OF OFFICE: Administer the Oath of Office to Mayor, Jeffery Schielke; City Clerk, Kate Garrett; Aldermen: Jennifer Baerren, Leah Leman, Kevin Malone, Alice Lohman, Dustin Pieper, Tony Malay, Jim Fahrenbach, Matt Anderson, Robin Barraza, Sarah Vogelsinger
2. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER
Mayor Schielke called the meeting to order at 7:48 p.m.
3. ROLL CALL
Aldermen in attendance at roll: Barraza (7), Lanci (6), Beck (5), Malay (4), Malone (3), Wolff (2), Solfa (1), Baerren (1), Leman (2), Lohman (3), Pieper (4), Fahrenbach (5), Anderson (6), Vogelsinger (7).
Attending remotely: Wolff
4. PROCLAMATION: Honoring Economic Development Week May 11 -17, 2025 and Building Safety Month May 2025
Ald. Beck read aloud the Proclamation.
Motion by Ald. Beck, seconded by Ald. Malay, for approval. Motion carried 14 yea/ 0 nay/ 0 absent.
5. PROCLAMATION: Honoring Public Service Administration Staff Week May 4 – 10, 2025
Ald. Beck read aloud the Proclamation.
Motion by Ald. Beck, seconded by Ald. Malay, for approval. Motion carried 14 yea/ 0 nay/ 0 absent.

6. RECOGNITION: Outgoing Aldermen George Ajazi, Mark Uher, Nicholas Cerone
Mayor Schielke spoke about the notable accomplishments that took place during the tenure of Aldermen Ajazi, Uher, and Cerone. He presented each of the outgoing Aldermen with a copy of his remarks.
Motion by Ald. Beck, seconded by Ald. Leman, for approval. Motion carried 14 yea/ 0 nay/ 0 absent.
7. MATTERS FROM THE PUBLIC: (For Items NOT On The Agenda)
George Ajazi rose to address the council. He said that the true champions of the city are the city staff.
Mark Uher rose to address the council. He said that it has been an honor to serve with his fellow Aldermen. He encouraged new Aldermen to use their voices.
Nick Cerone rose to address the council. He said that he is grateful for his neighbors who encouraged him to get involved and for the city staff. He noted that there are now 13 new aldermen since the beginning of his service on the City Council. He encouraged the council to continue to push limits and preserve the small town charm of Batavia.

8. ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT
Administrator Newman delivered her report on the recent activities of the City of Batavia. She noted that there is a new survey going to homes and businesses regarding energy use and predicted energy use to better assess and anticipate needs.
She said that there are a number of road closures upcoming to allow for improvement projects.
She recognized Peggy Colby whose work earned the city a rating of AA1, which is one level lower than the highest possible rating for a municipality.

9. OTHER BUSINESS
Ald. Baerren recommended that the Council take up the issue of creating a proclamation in support of Pride Month and raising the Pride Flag in June. Her recommendation found support around the table.
10. MAYOR'S REPORT
Mayor Schielke delivered his report. He reminded the Council that Representative Underwood helped to allocate grant funding to Batavia in support of the new home of the April 21st, 2025, Minutes of the Batavia City Council, Batavia, Illinois 2 of 3food pantry. He commended Max Weiss for his work to secure that funding during a tumultuous time in the federal government.
Motion by Ald. Beck, seconded by Ald. Leman, to approve the consent proclamation. Motion carried 13 yea/ 0 nay/ 1 absent.
11. ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Ald. Solfa, seconded by Ald. Vogelsinge, to adjourn. Motion carried by voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
