Oswego Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education met May 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Community Unit School District 308, Kendall, Kane and Will Counties, Illinois, met in a regular session in the Community Room at Oswego East High School.

Note for file: All roll call votes are shown in alphabetical order in these minutes; however, during the Board Meeting votes are called out in accordance with Board Policy 2:220

1. Call to Order – Executive Session (6:45 p.m.)

The meeting was called to order at 6:48 p.m. by President LaTonya Simelton

1.1 Roll Call:

Upon Roll Call the following members answered present:

2. Recognitions

2.1 Recognition of Wildcats Special Olympics Team

Congratulations to the students of the Oswego Wildcats Junior Basketball Team and coaches Michael Folsom and Leann Teckenbrock. These students received a Silver Medal at the Special Olympics Illinois State Basketball Tournament. 2.2 Recognition of Board Members Leaving Office

The Superintendent highlighted several key achievements of the outgoing Board, including establishing a clear equity policy, developing partnerships with neighboring towns Oswego, Aurora, and Village of Montgomery, and pioneering the inclusion of students on the Board.of Education. The Board also improved financial management by eliminating the need for short-term borrowing after 20 years of practice.

3.1 Board Member Comments

Board President delivered an emotional tribute to her former teacher, Mrs. Willie Bonner Wright, who taught for 35 years at Nancy Hill School. The tribute highlighted the significant impact educators have on students' lives.

The meeting concluded with recognition of student board members, praising their contributions in providing authentic student perspectives and demonstrating leadership qualities in the seventh largest school district in Illinois.

Ms. Simelton led Dr. Martin, Dr. Pollock, Ms. Robinson and Ms. Sieh in taking the Oath of Office.

The new Board Members took their seats and a roll call was taken.

6. Appoint President Pro Tempore to Preside over Board of Education Reorganization

6.1 Appoint President Pro Tempore to preside over the Election of the Board of Education President

A motion was made by Mr. Dominick Cirone, second by Ms. Mary Jo Wenmouth, for Dr. Amy Murillo to serve as President Pro Tempore to preside over the election of the Board of Education President.

Final Resolution: Motion Carried 7-0

7. Board of Education Reorganization

A motion was made by Dr. Heather Martin, second by Dr. Amy Murillo, for Mr. Dominick Cirone to serve as Board of Education President

Final Resolution: Motion Carried 7-0

A motion was made by Mr. Dominick Cirone, second by Dr. Amy Murillo, to elect Dr. Heather Martin to serve as Board of Education Vice President

Final Resolution: Motion Carried 7-0

A motion was made by Dr. Amy Murillo, second by Ms. Erika Sieh, to approve Option 1 as the regular Board of Education meeting dates and times as discussed
