Village of Oswego issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.
The Oswego Village Board on Tuesday night unanimously voiced their support of making Metra Service in Oswego a high priority for the Chicago area, and is asking residents to do the same.
On Tuesday, July 17, the Board approved a resolution asking the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning to elevate the Oswego Metra station to a ‘high priority,’ a designation that indicates that a project is both needed and eligible for federal funding.
Approximately once every decade, CMAP develops a new master document that guides agencies and lawmakers as they decide which major infrastructure projects to fund and build. The latest plan, called the ON TO 2050 Plan, is currently in the public comment period. If CMAP elevates the priority of the Metra station, it will increase the chances that state and Federal funding will be made available to start in the project in the future.
“We know that Metra service is something that is needed in Oswego, and that it’s something our residents have been waiting for a very long time,” said Village Administrator Dan Di Santo. “What our Village Board said last night in voting for this resolution is that this project is ready for the next step so that we can begin making this dream a reality.”
More Kendall County communities are expected to pass similar resolutions in upcoming weeks.
