City of Sandwich City Council met April 13.

Mayor Robinson called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

a. Approval of Special Council Meeting Minutes of April 6, 2020
b. Approval of March bills totaling $ 152,191.67
Mayor Robinson congratulated the City and police department on the City being ranked 5th in SafeWise’s top 50 safest cities in Illinois for 2020. Citing as an honor, Mayor Robinson said the ranking is testimony of the City’s accomplishment and commitment to public safety. SafeWise is an online resource that offers safety solutions, information, and recommendations for the home and community.
City Clerk Ii announced that residents are now able to pay their water bills online via Epay noting the timing was convenient due to the COVID-19 outbreak. City Hall has been closed to the public since March 17th, 2020.
Director of Public Works / City Engineer Horak:
Plan Commission regular meeting for Tuesday, April 14th, 2020 has been cancelled. Hydrant flushing dates have been revised to Monday, April 20th through Friday, April 24th. The hours for hydrant flushing will be 8 am – 4 pm daily.
Chief Bianchi: No report
EMA Director Ciciora: No report
Aldermen Reports:
Alderman Dell favored a budget meeting for Saturday, April 18th at 8 am. Topics to be discussed include departmental budget review, personnel matters, and discretionary spending. If time allows, the proposed personnel ordinance will also be discussed. The last budget meeting was held on March 18th
. Alderman Kelleher extended congratulations to Chief Bianchi and the police department on a job well-done in the City’s ranking as the 5th Safest Community in Illinois.
Alderman Kreinbrink questioned if Engineer Horak was aware that people were spotted recently digging on the dirt pile at Gletty Road. Engineer Horak responded he had no knowledge.
Alderman Kreinbrink said he had received several complaints from residents unable to access the WebEx meeting after noting a discrepancy in the agenda posted on the website. The matter will be investigated and corrected.
Announcements: The next Finance Committee Meeting will be held on Monday, April 20th following the Committee-of-the-Whole Meeting.
Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Council, motion made by Alderman Surratt and seconded by Alderman Kelleher to adjourn the Regular Council meeting at 7:40 PM. Motion carried unanimously by viva voce vote.
