City of Sandwich City Council met Sept. 24.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Robinson reconvened the September 22nd meeting to order at 5:30 PM

Roll call was taken:

Present: Mayor Robinson, City Clerk Ii, Aldermen Dell, Killey, Kreinbrink, Littlebrant, Surratt & Whitecotton

Also present: City Engineer Horak, Chief Bianchi & Chamber of Commerce Geri Benning

Absent: Alderman Kelleher & Economic Director Teckenbrock

Audience Comments: None

Workshop on Strategic Planning: The workshop was conducted by NIU Center for Governmental Studies staff Mel Henricksen, Assistant Director, Public Management & Training and Jeanne Ballard, Senior Research Associate.

After a review of the September 22nd meeting, attendees were asked to assess strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). Examples were strength – amenities; weaknesses – finances, opportunities – Metra, and threats – infrastructure.

Attendees were divided into small groups to assess and establish strategic goals and objectives necessary to achieve the future vision. Goals were ranged from short-term (1-3 years) to long-term (3-8 years):

- Short term included technology and staffing, sidewalks, street projects, and police station

- Long term included City Administrator, commercial development, infrastructure, and downtown rejuvenation

Post workshop will consist of an online exercise assessing priorities and implementation.

Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Council motion was made by Alderman Robinson and seconded by Alderman Dell to adjourn at 8:30 PM. Motion carried unanimously by viva voce vote.
