House Rep. Stephanie Kifowit's (D-Oswego) bill to amend the Department of Veterans' Affairs Act has passed the House Veterans' Affairs Committee and will be favorably reported to the House.

House Bill 2369 allows the Illinois Joining Forces Foundation to be assisted in carrying out its functions with Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) personnel and requires the foundation's audit to be included in the department's audit.

"This is a follow-up for Illinois Joining Forces Foundation regarding veteran services," Kifowit said Tuesday during a committee hearing.

The bill was filed in the 101st General Assembly, but COVID-19 delayed it.

Kifowit said there was an amendment in the works.

"We’re working on an amendment for it," Kifowit said. "I'm asking for it to be pushed out of committee and it will be held on second until an amendment can be filed."

Kifowit said the amendment included technical changes to bring legislation in line with the foundation.

Kifowit said she believed the amendment would clear up the opposition from the IDVA.

House Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Woodhull) questioned the opposition to the bill. Kifowit noted that she had notes from the IDVA that would help in shaping the amendment.

HB 2369 will now go on to the House.
