The Aurora Paramount Theatre is launching a new performance venue called The Stolp Island Theatre and will offer the community a fresh cultural experience as well as boost the local economy.
According to The Daily Herald, the theatre will be constructed at 5 E. Downer Place, taking over a piece of land that has long been vacant, and will accommodate seating for up to 99 depending on the production.
"This is an exciting concept that is sure to boost the local economy," Sen. Linda Holmes (D-Aurora) wrote in a Facebook post on April 2.
Holmes is pleased with the financial boost that the new venue will bring to the community, which may be as high as $3.3 million annually.
Stolp Island Theatre’s construction site is 6,000 square feet, providing sufficient space for the immersive performances that will take place at the venue.
Stolp Island Theatre is going to be funded by Aurora and the Paramount Theatre from a multiyear funding commitment from Verano Holdings Corp., which is based in Chicago. Verano Holdings Corp. runs Zen Leaf Cannabis Dispensary located in Aurora.
