Jim Marter, a Republican from Oswego, announced his candidacy for the 14th District House seat now held by U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood of Naperville, a Democrat.
Marter switched his candidacy from the 16th district, where he was among fellow Republicans challenging U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Rockford), the Daily Herald reported.
Marter told the newspaper he switched races because he expects his home will be in the newly drawn boundaries of the 14th District once redistricting is completed. He is the first candidate to file paperwork for the 14th District contest, the story said.
On his campaign website, Marter describes himself as a pro-Trump Republican.
"I love America and treasure our FREEDOMs, Constitution, and our Republican form of government which has been passed from one generation of patriots to another, understanding that LIFE & LIBERTY must be defended by every generation," he wrote.
He has been a Boy Scout leader, swimming coach and youth basketball coach, Marter said.
"I’ve served as a precinct committeeman and Republican Party Chairman of Kendall County working hard for many Republicans," he said.
Marter, the owner of a software management company, moved to Oswego in 1997.
"I will secure the border, support immigration limits and reform, including blocking immigrants from terrorist states, eliminate sanctuary cities, cut spending and 'Big' government in Washington," he wrote.
