State Rep. David Welter (R-Morris) has announced his reelection bid for Illinois’ 75th District.
Welter, who was first elected to the state House of Representatives in 2016, represents parts of Grundy, DeKalb, LaSalle and Kendall counties.
“Serving as your state representative is the honor of a lifetime, and I am excited to launch my re-election campaign to continue working on behalf of district residents,” Welter said in a statement he shared on his Twitter account on Nov. 18. “A representative’s main responsibility is to advocate for the economic interests of the district.”
WSPY in Plano reported that the district has been redrawn to include Sandwich and Somonauk along with Plano, Yorkville, Newark, and portions of Oswego.
Welter further asserted in the statement that the lower chamber of the Illinois General Assembly protected local jobs, home values, and critical funding for area school districts “by passing legislation to strengthen Illinois’ reputation as a prominent energy-producing state.”
According to Ottawa’s WCMY, Welter counts a bill to keep the nuclear fleets open and Colton’s Law, which updates outdated domestic violence policies, among the highlights of his first term.
Before his election to the GA, he served as the chairman of the Grundy County Board.
He works as a licensed real estate with RE/MAX Top Properties in Morris and was a human resources and procurement manager for a local trucking and construction equipment company.
Welter is a firm believer in Second Amendment rights, limited government, and local control of schools but expressed a willingness to work with Democrats in finding common ground for the sake of all Illinoisans, according to WSPY.
He is a married father of three.
