City of Batavia City Council met Nov. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER

The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM.

2. INVOCATION followed by PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Alderman Uher led the Pledge of Allegiance.

3. ROLL CALL

Aldermen in attendance at roll: Baerren (1), Solfa (1), Leman (2), Wolff (2), Ajazi (3), Chanzit (3), Malay (4), Connelly (4), Uher (5), Beck (5), Cerone (6), Russoto (6), Vogelsinger (7), Miller (7).

Attending remotely: Russoto, Beck, Chanzit, Ajazi, Malay, Cerone, Vogelsinger

4. REMINDER: Please speak into the microphone for BATV recording

5. ITEMS REMOVED/ADDED/CHANGED

Items 8 and 10 are removed to comply with the posted Notice of Public Hearing scheduled for November 8th at 7:35.

Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Solfa, to approve the resolution. Motion carried 14 yea/ 0 nay/ 0 absent.

Consent agenda read by Ald. Chanzit

Motion by Ald. Chanzit, seconded by Ald. Miller, to approve the consent agenda. Motion carried 14 yea/ 0 nay/0 absent.

7. MATTERS FROM THE PUBLIC: (For Items NOT on the Agenda) none seen

8. PUBLIC HEARING 7:35 P.M.: Special Service Area 56 Fox Valley Industrial Park Subdivision And Fox Valley Business Park Resubdivision

9. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE:

Margaret Perreault delivered her report on the recent and upcoming activity of the Chamber of Commerce.

Jenni Zielkie and Suzy Lackey Ray of Light and Pine Collective presented information about their business, housed at Wilson Street Mercantile. The collective showcases the work of independent artisans, many of whom are Batavians, and all of whom are women.

10. ORDINANCE 21-61: Establishing Special Service Area Number 56 – Fox Valley Industrial Park Subdivision And Fox Valley Business Park Resubdivision (DR 10/21/21 COW 10/26/21 12-0)

11. ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT

City Administrator Laura Newman delivered her report. Review recording for complete report.

12. COMMITTEE REPORTS

Government Services:

Two ordinances will be items on tomorrow’s Committee of the Whole agenda.

13. OTHER BUSINESS

Ald. Wolff congratulated the Batavia High School football team on their first round playoff victory. Discussion about BATV’s capacity to broadcast the game ensued.

Ald. Malay congratulated the Girls' Cross Country Team heading to the state championships.

14. MAYOR’S REPORT

Mayor Schielke delivered his report. He noted infrastructure improvements which have resulted in the highest possible rating for the Batavia Fire Department. He and city staff plan to seek a special census from the Census Bureau in 2023.

15. ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Solfa, to adjourn. Motion carried by voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
